It's difficult to not have fun with this chart. "Free Food?" is a catchy, good-humored Calypso in C minor.  Look out for the cute trumpet mouthpiece "quacks" (it's an ode to ducks, after all).

There are 16-bar solos scored for several players, making it a great vehicle for featuring a handful of soloists—but much more interesting than endless blues choruses.

You'll find meaty saxophone and trombone parts, and a clever ending. "Free Food?" works great just about anywhere in a concert set, and is a great closer for a festival program.

The recording you hear above is by a band I assembled based in Central PA. Soloists: Dale Orris (trumpet), Kevin Supina (bari), Paul Leskowicz (trombone), Matt Donovan (alto), Jonathan Ragonese (tenor), Steve Rudolph (piano), and Aaron Kimmel (drums).
