This unusual piece for quartet is dedicated to Stan Getz, one of the most-beloved tenor saxophonists of the 20th Century.
"whatever Stan wants" has a warm, original theme with a jazz flavor. Bob Mintzer's compositional influence may be evident to some listeners. There is a brief optional ad-lib solo for your tenor player. An alternative written solo is also provided.
"Stan" was composed to be programmed both as a stand-alone piece and in suite with its two sister works, "Paquito de Habana" and "Mancini digs that mambo".
